FIVE KILLED IN SUICIDE ATTACK IN LAHORE

At least five persons have been reportedly killed in a bomb attack near the Lahore Police Lines in Qila Gujjar Singh area of Lahore on 17th February 2015.

Initially the police declared it a blast detonated through a time device. But soon the police found limbs of an unidentified person which strongly indicated to involvement of a suicide bomber. It has been told that a young man aged between 22 and 25 years blew himself up outside a hotel near the Police Lines around 12:45pm. According to police and hospital sources at least five persons, including a police officer, died and twenty five others were injured in this incident. The blast was so powerful that several cars also caught fire due to the explosion. The windowpanes of nearby buildings were shattered to smithereens, which caused injuries to several people.

The Provincial Police Officer (PPO), Punjab claimed that the police officer who died in the explosion in fact challenged and tackled the suicide bomber which left him with no choice but to explode himself outside the police lines.

According to the PPO, the suicide bomber wanted to target the Police Lines but failed in his design. There were about five thousand policemen inside the police lines at the time of explosion.

It is a matter of concern that despite high alert a man carrying high explosive as heavy as 8-10 kg managed to reach the heart of city. It was utter failure of intelligence and the law enforcement agencies.
